Urology Inservice exams
I know this may be a bit premature, but whats the best way to study for these urology inservice exams and do well? You know like the USMLEWORLD will help you crush the USMLE...
What exactly do they consisit of? Are they like the ABSITE?
Tests always makes me anxious so I like to prepare early....always.
thanks
In addition to the SASP questions I also recommend using the Educational Review Manual in Urology as a text, it reads well and is incredibly concise....new ones are 100$ and can be found here http://www.auanet.org/content/products/books.cfm
I paid attention on conferences, asked questions in clinic, read random parts of Weider, and did a bunch of SASP questions. 95%ile.
Thanks a bunch! Very Helpful!
YOU SAID YOU READ RANDOM PARTS OF WEIDER? SORRY TO SOUND SO IGNORANT, BUT WHAT IS WEIDER?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

I have an older edition next to my toilet. Every time some chinese food decides to exact revenge on me and my colon for eating it, I read a whole chapter. ;)

Umm...yeah...TMI maybe?
Just doing SASP went from 45% to 85% in one year. Enough said.
Thats awesome to the above poster! Congrats.
What is a decent/ Awesome First yr percentile on this exam? And just curious, how many SASP questions did you do? Is this something we should study for pretty much every day a month of so leading up to it or is this something you can just do a few questions a day for a few months leading up? Thanks again.
Very helpful post and I did recently buy the Educational review Manual mentioned above. Its pretty thick though...
What is a good % for first yrs on the inservice exam?
Posters above are quoting a percentile compared to other urology residents in the same year, so it depends on what your program expects out of you.
Remember, there are a lot of smart people taking the test but: 1) some are busier than others with clinical work, 2) there are variable amounts of motivation from the programs to do well on this test, and 3) there are variable amounts of support in the way of didactics and study time in different programs.
In terms of raw score, at our program we are always told we need a raw score of 70% by the time we are chiefs. A raw score of 70% your PGY 2 year is roughly 95th percentile (although this varies year to year)
In general, worry about reading what is clinically applicable on a regular basis. The inservice should only dictate your reading in late October-Mid November.

Never TMI for urologists. In fact I do my best reading sitting on the can, and I am sure others would agree
Agreed...my scored went up between PGY-1 and PGY-2 years from SASP. I read about my patients all year, and then for 1-2 months before the test starting doing the tests. I tried to do at least 10 questions a night and looked up topics i had no clue about. on some days i'd do alot more and then there were days when i'd do none. SASP will work if u dont breeze it over- its not the amount of questions u do, but what you do about questions u dont know at all.
Awesome post and thread! Thanks Guys!

Go through the last few years of the SASP questions:
