Hey guys...

I'm going to be 'that guy.'  So I just got my step 1 score today, 229, which I was pretty disappointed with since my practice scores were around 240.  Oh well.  Looking through previous posts, I see that people definitely do match with these scores, but I'm wondering where I will really stand if I stay committed in my interest in uro.

No clinical research so far, just a basic science pub from undergrad.  How much will a score like that affect me?  Will I miss the step 1 cutoff for many programs to get an interview (is there some list of cutoffs anywhere?)

Thanks!

don't worry

will miss some cutoffs for top-tier programs, but this will definitely not keep you from matching into urology.

agreed - not the end of the world

Just focus on strengthening your application in other ways - do well on clerkships, get good letters, try to get some research in urology and get to know the department so you have a narrative that shows you were interested for a while.  Also, focus hard on step 2 when the time comes and do well early - that will help a lot.

Your score is still solid, just not outstanding.  You may not get interviews at some of the biggest names, but who cares if you goal is to get become a urologist?  You definitely don't have to give up on getting in somewhere.
