This application contains comprehensive information regarding erectile dysfunction in order for a practicing urologist or internist to better educate their patients on the disorder. The app is organized into 3 main chapters: male genital anatomy and physiology, erectile dysfunction, and diagnosis and treatment. Inside these chapters there are numerous images along with a paragraphs-worth of text explaining a specific area of erectile dysfunction (i.e. male anatomy, spermatogenesis, genital ducts, semen production, causes of ED, diagnosis, and treatment options). The app allows for images and text to be emailed to patients or colleagues, which definitely adds to the usefulness of this app. Finally, there is a feature for easily searching through the different sections of the app via keywords.
Sexiness of Interface/Ease of Use:
This app has a simple and easy to use interface that flows very nicely and is quite intuitively. Although simple, I found the app enjoyable to move through, especially the iPad version. The images and text can be zoomed via finger pinching, allowing for easier viewing.
As stated above, this app is most useful for urologists and internists as a tool to teach their patients about ED. I believe medical students can also use this app for basic information about ED. Residents will not find much use of this application as the information is not detailed enough for their level. Finally, I thought the app included a little too much medical jargon and detail for the patients to pick-up on their own; however, with the aid of a healthcare professional I believe patients will enjoy this app. The physician should use this app to teach patients about a specific aspect of ED and email them the picture and caption for reference at home.
A solid app that provides information about all aspects of erectile dysfunction intended for use by the practicing urologist or internist to teach their patients about any aspect of the disease they so choose. The app uses excellent images and appropriately detailed captions to present all aspects of ED. At $6.99 this may be too pricey for some.
