STEP scores AND Match
Hello,
For all of the people that have matched in urology I was wondering if you could share your step scores.
Thanks!!
245
Step 1 227
Step 2 250
step 1 234
step 2 253
Matched one of my top 5
Step 1 >250
Step 2 >260
Matched
1: mid 250's
2: high 260's
Step 1: 227
Step 2: 232
Matched in my top 3, a top tier program by all accounts. Don't let the numbers get you down!
1: mid 250's
2: high 260's
Did you you guys take Step 2 after aways/interviews?
1: mid 250's

Yes, I took Step 2 after interviews. Therefore, it really had not affect on the process.
Step 1: High 260s
Step 2: Mid 250s
Didn't get step 2 back until after match.
Step 1 250
Step 2 250
Step 1: 233
Step 2: 244 (got my score back in late December, and did not release to programs)
Step 1: 230
Step 2: 246
Matched to my #2 program. Evidence that, while important, Step scores aren't necessarilly the deciding factor in matching.
Step 1: 248
Step 2: 268
Board scores are just to get your foot into the door for an interview. After that, I don't think they matter much. 28/30 interviews received. Matched at my top choice.
Can you 220-230-range-step1 matchers give us some extra insight on what other parts of your app really helped you out? Like was it having a lot of research, or really good letters. And also were your 3rd year grades stellar and/or were you top of your class? Thanks a lot
Step 1 205
Step 2 240
Matched at my #1
Step 1 205
Step 2 240
Matched at my #1
any tips? and congrats on matching at your number 1 spot!

Step 1 227, Step 2 250
I thought the 227 was really going to hurt me, but I worked hard to build up the rest of my application. The things I worked on most were my third year grades (honored all but one including surgery and medicine) and research (5 pubs, 7 abstracts). The thing that most of my interviewers mentioned in the interviews was my letters. Urology is such a small community that everyone knows each other and when they read a letter from someone they know they trust their judgement on what type of person you are. I think Urology is one of those fields that genuinely looks at the application as a whole, not just how you look on paper and your step 1 scores.

I'd be welcome to share any tips, but in what direction? There are hundreds of variables in this match process. Also, I think I dont want to saturate the response field here, I think someone is looking for pure numbers (but as you can see from my scores, not really important).
Step 1: mid 240s
Step 2: high 270s
I took step 2 before interviews and I really felt it helped get me some interviews. With that said, I matched at a place that offered an interview before I got step 2 back that was my number one, but I think it probably helped my ranking.
step 1: 227
step 2: 242 (never got released to programs)
My piece of advice if your numbers are on the lower side for urology is to identify one or two programs where you feel you have a good chance of matching and where you think you might want to train. Do your aways at these places, and if you do well on your sub-i you'll tremendously increase your chances of moving up their rank list.
Step 1: 213
Step 2: 238
Took my Step 2 right after 3rd year so all programs received both scores.
229/227
Step 1: 213
Step 2: 238
Took my Step 2 right after 3rd year so all programs received both scores.
In a similar boat, scores-wise, any advice for targeting sub-Is to optomize the chances of matching? Shooting for low to mid tiers or getting a good letter from a top program to show you are more then your scores indicate?
