How long does it take to get your AUA number once you register and pay?

I just called the AUA

I just called the AUA registration phone number listed on the website and they said they are having problems with their system, so they are manually entering in new registrants. It could take a few days or so to get your AUA number

Do you guys know when

Do you guys know when application process really starts? Can we start applying when we receive the AUA #? I have yet to get all my letters ready, and am hoping to get one from an away rotation next month. Do I wait for that letter to come in or should I go ahead and start applying ASAP?
