question about Sub-I and interview

If you do a sub I, do the programs allow you to interview before leaving so you don't have to return for one later or will you have to travel back to do the interview? thanks

Agree with above posters. Key is to ask the program coordinator what to do at the beginning. In smaller programs the will likely just interview you while you are rotating. Larger programs will most likely have you come back at the designated interview dates

Some do and some don't. I'm

Some do and some don't. I'm not sure what the etiquette is regarding asking to interview while you are there, depending on whether or not you have been offered an interview. I was told its improper to ask to interview there, but maybe someone can comment.

I would love to hear someone,

I would love to hear someone, preferably a PGY-X's thoughts on this.

Having done two sub-I's where

Having done two sub-I's where they interviewed me during the rotation, both departments made a point of letting you know that you were to set up meetings with faculty to serve as interviews while there. I would ask the clerkship coordinator or residency coordinator what the policy is and then if they don't typically interview rotating students during the rotation, just hope you get an offer to go back...

I did an away at a large

I did an away at a large program and met with the program director.  This happened to be a program that makes you come back for interviews.  If they make you give a talk, this is a good opportunity to set up meetings with faculty to "run the talk by them" especially those in the field most relevant to your talk.  High yield is to touch base with the program director at the beginning of the month to feel these things out (as others have said).
