What are people's thoughts about the best program in Chicago? Northwestern, UChicago, or Loyola? I have heard justification for each being the best, and was wondering if people could compare and contrast the programs.

I think it depends on what you're looking for. U of C does a gigantic volume of oncology (open and robotic). Pretty crummy call schedule, but they're supposed to be adding a 3rd resident this upcoming year.Loyola is a really well-rounded program with really happy residents and a good call schedule, but they don't have the "big case" volume of U of C (although they do plenty).I've heard NW is pretty well-rounded as well, and tends to be more academic than the other two. Just my opinion, though.
How about UIC?
I haven't heard much great about UIC, but I've yet to see it for myself. I can't comment beyond that.Rush is also a pretty well-rounded, but smaller program. They have a really nice ratio of attendings to residents since they only take 1 resident a year.
Heard NW chair is leaving...and /or anyone have any new insites for strenghts /weaknesses for 2012 in Chicago?
Is that true?
I also heard this from a faculty member at my uro department. Any idea on timeline? i'm interested in doing an away there Summer/fall 2012 but am worried that things might be in limbo. Any advice?
UChicago - 3 residents - Biggest Oncology/Robotics volume. Cystectomy/Nephrectomy/Prostatectomy volumes are great. Acquired Northshore (private Evanston hospital) affiliation (2 residents at a time). Inner City patient population.Northwestern - 3 residents - More well rounded program, but less oncology/robotics/big cases than UChicago. Downtown (affluent) population. Goes to VA/Cook County.Loyola - 3 residents - Hear it's good, but don't know as much.Don't know much about UIC/Rush/Cook County
