Letter from a DO

I am a student in an allopathic school (3rd year ). One of our Urology attendings is an extremely nice person that I have worked with a lot. He knows me pretty well and he offered me to write me a letter whenever I need one. He is a DO and I am wondering if a letter from him might have a lower weight than other letters because of that.

It doesn't matter that much

It doesn't matter that much if he is a DO.  It does matter if he is well known in the field.  You should try to have your letters be from chairman and/or well known attendings in the field.  A positive letter from a community or affiliated-faculty urologist is not going to help you.

I am in the interview process

I am in the interview process right now.  I also attend an allopathic med school and one of my four letters is from a DO in our department who is well known in the field. If you're worried about this I would suggest getting 4 letters, including this one, since most programs only require 3.

Kingnothing, get over your

Kingnothing, get over your own prejudices and realize that there are plenty of DO's out there that are amazing urologists and extremely well respected in the field. I would rather have a letter from a top DO than one from a no name MD
