1 or 2 urology away electives?

Hi everyone,I am in a small predicament. After speaking with many upperclassmen, it seems that most agree or did two urology away electives, although there was a fair amount that did only one. I spoke with my director and he stated that although the decision is purely mine to make he "recommends only doing one urology away because that is all you need, the second one won't help you much since the letter of rec won't really be in time (i would be doing the second one in october), it makes me less well rounded, and it occasionally raises his eyebrow when he sees an applicant do two urology electives because they may be desperate about not matching." With that said, he has seen plenty of students match at their second choice away rotation. My info is that I am a 250+ step 1 student, not spectacular grades but top 1/2, bottom 40 med school  (lol, yes bottom but still gives out MD, not top), but with several non uro pubs, research grant, and currently on 3 uro projects. I am not looking for a "presitigious or powerhouse" program but one that fits with me well in terms of providing good clinical experience and will at least prepare me for private practice and give me the option of pursuing fellowship if I so choose. I have no interest in basic science research and would want to stick to a 5 year program. And, I have a regional preference. So with that said, I love two programs and would happily match at either. Additionally, they are both in my region of interest. I am sure that I can make a good impression on them but I am not sure if it is "worth it" to do both instead of having that month off and avoiding what my director told me. I am confused. Any input is appreciated. Thank you!

Or compromise, and just spend 2 weeks at the 2nd program

He is right that an away

He is right that an away rotation in October will not help you in terms of letters of recommendation.  It may very well help you to match to that particular program however.  Rank lists are not submitted until January, and a stellar performance on an externship means a hell of a lot more than any statistics, letters, or interview.  If you have two programs you are highly interested in than you should try to do aways at both of them.  It would benefit you to do the second away before October if possible, but either way it can help you.  I qualify this by saying that an away rotation can also hurt you.  If you don't perform well, you will not be able to overcome that by any means.
