Away and home rotation timing

Which scheduling is better? Away rotations in June and July with home rotation in August or away rotations in June and August with home rotation in July? Unfortunately, I cannot schedule my home rotation in June. Thanks!

Do your home rotation first.

Do your home rotation first.  They don't expect you to be as polished as you will be for aways, and it's good practice.  Finish one of your other requirements in June, then do your home and aways in July, August and September.

home first

I would do the home rotation before the away just to get your feet wet and not look like a rookie on your aways IMHO

I have June, July, August,

I have June, July, August, and September free for urology. I was strongly advised against scheduling my home rotation in June because the PD had told me how there will be no chief resident then etc. He told me to schedule my home rotation for any month other than June. I am planning on doing two aways. So either I do those aways in June and August with home in July or do aways in June and July with home in August. Or I could do something totally different in June like urology research and then schedule one of my aways for September, but I was afraid that would be a bit late cause I am a good, but not stellar, applicant. Any more insight?

If I were you, I'd do home in

If I were you, I'd do home in July, then aways in Aug and Sept. September isn't too late as long as whoever is writing your letter doesn't drag his/her feet and it's good to have your home rotation first to practice a little before you go on an away. Maybe you could use June for research or Step 2 CS or CK or just to relax.

If I were you, I would do 3

If I were you, I would do 3 aways.  It can only help you as a less than stellar applicant.  Go away in June, home in July, away in August and September.  If your home guy says don't do June for institutional reasons, you have to accept that.

um

3 aways is overkill. it's expensive, tiring, and not useful.if i were you, i would do:home rotation in mayaway 1 in juneaway 2 in julythis gives you time to get your application with all your letters (assuming you're getting chairman letters from the places you visit) in the first day applications can be submitted.some programs only download applications once or twice when offering interviews, so you want all your i's dotted and t's crossed as soon as possible. this way you're not passed over for an interview because only 3 of 4 letters are available for download.this also gives you time to tie up only loose ends on research projects you're working on in august and september, so that when interviews start in october, you have something to show off.
