Couples matching within Urology

The is probably very rare, but I was wondering if it is possible to couples match with the AUA match if both students are planning on doing urology.

hmm

not sure if it's even technically possible, but doubt many programs would want to match a couple. many take 2-3 a year...what if you break up and there's drama? that could poison an already tough working situation. maybe that's my own personal bias.

Do you know anything about the logistics or how to do it? I wasn't able to find anything on AUA's website regarding the idea.

you couple-match through ERAS

and obviously I would only go interview at programs that invited the both of you

Your best bet would be to

Your best bet would be to target cities with multiple programs.  I think some programs could be hesitant to have a couple in the same residency class.  Boston, Chicago, Philly, NYC area, Detroit area, LA would all be good places to focus on.  Detroit area programs (except Michigan) are probably easier to get interviews at than the others mentioned.  Also, don't be too hesitant to consider programs that may be 45 mins to an hour apart, like Louisville & Kentucky, Mayo & Minn, and others in the NE.  There is a definite risk of matching in different cities.  It may not get you anywhere, but you could call the AUA and see if they could help with your match process.  Good luck!
