Pickle: Dumb MS3 that likes Uro

Hello all,Im finishing up my M3 year at a mid tier school. Step 1 was 234. Zero research experience, although I'm trying to get in on projects with my home residents, so that may change. High pass on all 3rd year clerkships so far, currently on surgery, and peds grade is pending. I had great evals from attendings and residents, but blew it on the shelf exams... 3.3ish GPA. If anyone reading this has any advice in order to maximize my match potential, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks for your time in advance.

I got the exact same step 1

I got the exact same step 1 and didn't "discover" Uro until Feb of my MS3 year.  Went to a busy, young, faculty to get some research experience and ultimately came out with 1 uro paper (submitted during interview season).  I had similar 3rd year grades, and didnt get AOA.  Ended up applying to about 50 programs, got interviews at 25 or so, and went on 15. Ultimately got one of my top programs (not my #1 though).Keys, as for everyone, were LORs and killing your rotations.  That matters much more in the long run than anything except step 1.  I took step 2 early, delaying my home rotation, but did well (253).  Nobody asked about Step 2. Biggest surprise was how regional the results of the match were.  Find an area you like, do an away there, and then stick with your plan.  A lot of people who aren't at the pinnacle of applicants (as we aren't, unfortunately) spread themselves too thin and fall down their list.Considering what youre saying about evals, I'm confident youll be fine
