Is this generally accepted? I could see offering to pay someone's fee to change a flight that already booked, but offering cash or paying for hotels just seams a little weird and unfair to those without the resources to pay like that.

yeah i can see both views.... ultimately i think with how expensive this process is, if people are willing to help out other applicants for payment of a hotel stay, then so be it. we are all most likely neck-deep in loans anyway, what difference will another few hundred make in the long run? You'll probably only be lucky enough to find someone to switch once or twice as it is...
if people can afford to do it, i don't see a problem. there needs to be some incentive for applicants to want to shift their schedule around to help a fellow applicant. as altruistic as we hope to be as physicians, i don't think that quality reveals itself amongst us during this process
