Hurricane Sandy

Yikes! I'm lucky (or not... lol) that I don't have anything until next weekend, but sounds like there could be trouble. I'll be flying next weekend and I'm still mentally preparing to make other arrangements because of what the airports might look like.

Southwest was really good

Southwest was really good about letting me know my flight was canceled and offering free rebooking. Getting outta dodge tonight!

Were any of programs in the affected area supposed to interview this week?  Have they cancelled/rescheduled?

Rochester

I'm interview at Rochester on Oct 31.  Looks like there's a number of cancelled flights going out of ROC airport, but most of these were headed toward NYC, DC etc in the thick of the storm.  I'm flying in and out of ROC from the midwest, so hopefully it'll be fine.  I haven't heard any warnings from the program at all, so I assume it's fine, but staying vigilent regardless.

Yale

Yale's interview this weekend (Nov 2) is still on track.  The storm is now passing through New Haven and continuing over next couple days, but seems like it will clear and the weather.com forecast for New Haven is sunny on Friday-Saturday.

Hope the storm ends soon.  Thoughts and prayers go out to those whose homes or businesses are hit by Sandy.  Safe traveling everyone.

Columbia

Columbia is interviewing on 11/2 and 11/3, but at the moment all public transport is shut down in NYC and the airports are closed.  No work from them, but I imagine at least a few applicants will have a hard time getting there. But if they reschedule for a new date that conflicts with another program, that opens up a whole new set of problems :/

I think it would be very irresponsible for the new york city programs (Columbia and NYU this weekend) to not reschedule their interviews. Half the city has no power still, there is no mass transit. It is not a time for extra people to be coming to the city, its dangerous and hotels need to be reserved for the people who live in manhattan who can't get to their homes. The airports are barely open and those few flights that are coming in and out should be reserved for people who need to get back to their families. That's just my opinion. obviously if the interviews are on we will all find a way to get there.

Yale

I called Yale today and they confirmed that they are still hosting interviews this weekend.
