Was anyone surprised (for better or worse) by their match?Did anyone encounter PDs or chairmen who appeared forthcoming about their intentions and then ended up surprising you?I was a wee bit surprised by my match, and a couple others at my institution were also surprised. But we aren't looking a gift horse in the mouth, given that more than one out of three applicants who submitted lists didn't match.
No Match.That was a surprise.
I got a love, possibly lust, letter from my number 1 program chair, that everyone I showed to (including my home attending urologists) thought I'd match there. Surprise, surprise... I didn't match there. For the future applicants, don't let any love letter from any attending urologist sway your decision. Good luck to the people who didn't match and I'm hoping the best for you as this year was particularly brutal.
Actually I got two emails from the PD at my #4 spot so I thought for sure that was the lowest down my list that I would match. I ended up matching at my #6 but I'm just so grateful that I matched and at a place that I liked.Congrats to all those who matched and Good luck to all those who didn't.
I got two lovey dovey emails from the chairman at my #3. Was excited that I wouldn't go below that program on my list. Ended up matching at my #4. So very, very grateful to have matched (and at a place I liked), but there was a brief moment when I thought, "wait, what?"
Got a very strong "we want you at our program" letter from my #1. Matched at my #1. Sometimes it works out too....
I got very little communication from anyone up and down my list (some general reach-out to answer questions from my #2 but no lovey-dovey signal) and wound up matching at my #1. Who knows what communication or lack thereof really means.
