This is an age old question, but since urology is now even more competitive than ever before, I feel that I need to ask it once more. Is it frowned upon to go on an interview or 2 during an October away rotation? Sure, most of these interviews can be pushed back to November. However, with so many programs only offer two or ONE interview date, not interviewing at all in October seems like a bad idea. The probability of conflicting dates goes way up. Please, ANYONE with with insight on this matter should feel free to answer.
I don't have any special insight, but I would think it's a bad idea. Most residents and/or attendings would probably understand, but all it takes is for a few to think that it reflects poorly to take time away from the month where you are supposed to be 100% dedicated to the program. It probably depends on the circumstances though. If the interview is nearby and you can get to it on a day off (if you get any), having to duck out a few hours early one day isn't the same as leaving for days at a time.
Had a similar question and spoke to one of the attendings about it. Seems like a pretty bad idea to go on alot of interviews during an away. I would say maybe 1-2 max during 4 week away.
