Boston Children’s Hospital Robotic Surgery Research Internship

The Department of Pediatric Urology at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School is announcing an opening for a one-year, funded research internship in Robotics and Innovative Technologies. This position is open for U.S. medical school graduates (graduation date of Spring 2015 or earlier) who are pursuing a career in Urology and plan on entering the Urology Match in Fall 2015. It is a flexible start date (March-May 2015). Under the direction of Richard Yu, MD, PhD, you will have the opportunity to lead many collaborative, translational and clinical urologic research projects in the areas of simulation-based medical education, robotic surgery outcomes, and basic science research. The intern will help develop and execute laparoscopic and robotic simulation curricula on state-of-the-art virtual reality simulators for medical students, Urology residents, and Pediatric Urology fellows. Additionally, the intern will have the opportunity to participate in tissue engineering projects in our advanced animal surgical facility.
 
Responsibilities include writing IRB and animal-based research protocols, presenting new project proposals at departmental meetings, creating and implementing simulation curricula, managing clinical databases, and animal husbandry care. The intern attends all clinical conferences, journal clubs, and residency/fellowship educational lectures, and has the opportunity to observe in the operating room and clinic. Furthermore, there is a multitude of educational opportunities at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School on biostatistics, scientific writing, clinical research, and medical leadership.
