Congrats...

Is that your home institution?

Meant to be inquisitive, not demanding.....

Does it matter? Are there places that invite their students a few days before sending out other invites? Do all programs even interview their home students? I know that some places don't interview students that do an away rotation there.

It is not my home institution

It is not my home institution but I also received the offer. In regards to not being invited by programs to interview where you do an away, that sounds counterintuitive.

Well if you think about it..

If you spend a month at an away institution, how much more are they going to learn about you (or you learn about them) after going for a one day interview? A lot of programs will spare an applicant an extra interview trip and just rank that student w/o an interview based on their application and their sub-i experience.

What he said...

That's more what I was getting at- that you've already done a month-long interview, so they use that interview spot for someone whose glove size they don't know. You're still on their rank list provided you apply.

Personally, I think this is brilliant and wish it were that way everywhere. As much fun as I had at mine, I'd just as soon not fly out and tour a hospital that I wrote notes in at 5am.

Waaa??

I understand that the program can rank whomsoever they want, but how common is it that a school would do so without a formal interview? It seems more efficient to do it that way, but how are you supposed to know if you should even list them on your rank list without an interview?

GUru
Not Possible

Rank lists may only include programs at which a formal interview was conducted.

huh? The program director at

huh? The program director at my current away said that we can have a meeting while I am here so that I dont have to fly back down. I plan to add this program to my rank list. So... I am sorry but you are incorrect.

Yep

Typically you do an interview while you're on your away rotation so you don't have to come back for the interview dates that everyone else goes to. I think most of them give you the option to return for another interview (I geuss we'll see as more programs get invites out), but don't hold it against you if you don't since it clears space for more interviews. There's an advantage (time-wise) for both applicant and program.

You'd know to rank them b/c you do have an interview, or at the very least a conversation on your away rotation where they tell you that this is how they do things.

GUru
Exactly

An interview during an away rotation is still considered a formal interview. An interview does need to happen in order to put a program on your rank list.
